Despite reporter Michael Hastings’s fear that he was being investigated before his death, as revealed by WikiLeaks and confirmed by BuzzFeed editor Ben Smith, the FBI insists otherwise. “At no time was journalist Michael Hastings ever under investigation by the FBI,” said a spokesperson for the L.A. field office. “Period.” The circumstances of the journalist’s solo car crash are under investigation. A celebration of Hastings’s life is planned for Sunday in his native Vermont.
