Politico Poaches Foreign Policy’s Top Editor

By

Politico's Dylan Byers described that site's hiring of Foreign Policy editor-in-chief Susan Glasser as "truly game-changing news." That bit of hyperbole aside, the hire certainly highlights Politico's serious intent to increase its long-form, magazine-style coverage as well as its opinion writing, both divisions Glasser will oversee. The New York Times points out that Glasser, a veteran of the Washington Post and Roll Call, had been removed from her job as assistant managing editor at the Post five years ago amid a slump in morale. But it also quotes Politico's executive editor, Jim VandeHei, who once reported to Glasser at Roll Call: "Her obsession with excellence and innovation will fit in perfectly at Politico." At least we know the news of her hire will be game-changing at Politico and FP, which hasn't yet announced Glasser's replacement.
