MTA Might Rename Subway Stations for Some Advertisers

Advertisers with a penchant for public transportation: The MTA has heard your pleas. And someday soon, it might actually take your money and your names. According to the New York Times, the agency has for the first time proposed a set of rules to allow advertisers to put their names on stations, along the lines of the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Center. Discussions about the idea will take place next week. But the naming rights wouldn't be available to just anyone, per those new guidelines. Only sponsors "with a unique or iconic geographic, historic or other connection to such facility that would be readily apparent to typical M.T.A. customers" would be considered. Hopefully that means we needn't worry about having to navigate the likes of, say, Trump Circle.
