A high-speed train derailment in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, yesterday has left at least 78 people dead in the worst European rail disaster since 1998. Authorities believe the train "was travelling at more than twice the speed limit" for a sharp curve when it left the tracks and careened into a wall.
"We're only human! We're only human!" one of the train's two drivers wailed into his radio after the crash."I hope there are no dead, because this will fall on my conscience."
