In addition to recording conversations with his colleagues in a federal corruption investigation into members of the New York State Assembly, Nelson Castro had a key requirement to avoid prosecution on a past perjury indictment: Tell the truth. He couldn't do it. On Tuesday Castro admitted he lied to investigators when he couldn't get his story straight about his participation in a YouTube video about his cooperation with them. So now he's going to be charged with making false statements, plus he'll plead guilty to the perjury count, and all that secret recording will wind up doing Castro very little good.
