Just in time for the petering out of the latest Anthony Weiner sex scandal, the Post and Roger Stone are hard at work on creating a new one, this time with Eliot Spitzer. For the past three days, Stone, Spitzer' sock-obsessed nemesis, has been heralding the imminent unveiling of Spitzer's secret girlfriend/"goumada":

The Post has yet to report anything about Spitzer's alleged girlfriend, but it did hound him this morning about the "rumors" during a campaign stop at a Brooklyn subway station:

The candidate for city comptroller was asked three times at a campaign stop this morning in Brooklyn about persistent rumors he is having an "extra-marital affair."

"I am so tired of the personal attacks and I've answered all those questions," Spitzer said outside the Borough Hall subway station, where he was shaking hands with voters and received an overwhelmingly positive response.

What both the Post and Stone fail to mention, of course, is that Spitzer and his wife have been living apart for months now. The Post has even reported that Silda wants a divorce. So while the exact nature of their relationship is unclear, for all we know they're allowed to see other people. Which, if true, would make this a pretty weak "extra-marital affair." If it even exists.
