Entirely on me,” he said. “I simply assumed … Republicans were excluded.” Meanwhile, GOP officials took the less classy route by criticizing the organizers for not working hard enough to cajole some Republican into speaking. The RNC says it provided other suggestions, such as Sen. Tim Scott, after six prominent Republicans turned down invitations to speak. Sure, Scott had already been asked to attend and failed to RSVP, but why would organizers assume that meant he didn’t want to speak?
