Steinem Remembers Bella Abzug in Quinn Video

When Gloria Steinem finally endorsed Christine Quinn for mayor (after some initial reluctance born from Quinn’s delaying the paid sick leave bill), she did so with a wistful recollection of Bella Abzug, her friend and fellow feminist, on whose 1977 mayoral campaign she worked: “I wish Bella Abzug had been mayor,” she said at the time. So when Steinem compared Quinn to Abzug in the first few seconds of a video she sent to Quinn’s mailing list on Thursday, it stood out: “My favorite Chris moments have to do with walking in the street with her. In my life experience it’s somewhat like walking with Bella Abzug, and truck drivers hanging out of their cars and saying hi.”
