A Wildfire Could Take San Francisco Off the Grid

A week-old California wildfire that has already burned down 125,620 acres has made its way into Yosemite National Park, prompting Governor Jerry Brown to declare a state of emergency. Though the blaze is 150 miles outside San Francisco, Brown says it has “already caused damage to electrical infrastructure” that serves the city. It is also nearing the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, which supplies 85 percent of San Francisco’s water. While there have been no reports of blackouts or water delivery problems so far, the fire “[continued] to burn out of control” on Saturday.
