DIY Bike Lanes Are Now a Thing

In the vocal and unending debate over new city bike lanes, one new tactic is perhaps the simplest: A group of cyclists painted new bike lanes along Avenue of the Americas from 42nd toward Central Park, and despite a bit of smudging, they apparently worked about as well as the existing ones. Per the Times “Most motor vehicles appeared to avoid driving in the newly created lanes, but others passed over the logos. A stream of bicyclists rode in the lanes.”
