Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat Come Out Ahead in Lawsuit Against Warner Bros.

Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat creators Charlie Schmidt and Christopher Torres have resolved their copyright-infringement lawsuit against Warner Bros. and 5th Cell Media, Daily Intelligencer has learned. Per the agreement, both meme cats will continue to be used in the company's Scribblenaughts games, but the creators will now be paid. For having funny cats. Representatives for Team Meme issued the following statement to Daily Intelligencer: "The parties have amicably resolved their dispute and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Inc. and 5th Cell Media, LLC are licensees for the continuing uses of the characters in their Scribblenauts games."

In April of this year, Torres and Schmidt filed a lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in the Central District of California, alleging that Warner Bros. and 5th Cell, the developer and maker of Scribblenauts, respectively, used images of Keyboard Cat and Nyan Cat without permission or compensation, violating the copy and trademark rights of the memes.
