The mess of a case that is the CityTime scandal — in which taxpayers were screwed out of $500 million in a consulting rip-off — could get a star witness: The mayor has been subpoenaed by the accused mastermind of the scheme, the Daily News reports. A judge will ultimately decide, however, and city lawyers argue that “the mayor’s appearance at trial is highly likely to become a distraction to this court and the jury that would threaten to obfuscate the real issues.” Bloomberg would, at the very least, be extremely grouchy on the stand.
