If Bill de Blasio missed winning the Democratic nomination for mayor outright, it’s only just barely. But as Bill Thompson clings to the idea, pending a re-count, of a runoff — which polls show him losing badly — just about everyone else is ready to move on. “Please rally behind the Democratic nominee as quickly as possible,” said third-place finisher Christine Quinn today, echoing Thompson’s own campaign chair. “I think it’s clear to most folks that that person is going to be Bill de Blasio,” Quinn added, “but that’s a decision for Bill Thompson to make himself.” Translation: You’re all alone, Thompson. It’s time to walk away.
