To help us get even better acquainted with the mayoral candidates (including the one they endorsed), the New York Times has created a nifty infographic. It’s not quite “Snowfall,” but the newspaper’s “Voting Blocs of New York City” offers a guide to the various groups that make up the Democratic primary’s “prime voters” — the 800,000 New Yorkers who are most likely to show up at the polls — and their likely choices for mayor. The interactive map names twenty demographic groups, including residents of Central Brooklyn (a “predominantly black … home to nearly 1 in 10 of the city’s Democratic prime voters”), Brooklyn Russians (“one of the least supportive communities for Mr. Thompson,” but supportive of Weiner), Queens Hispanics (“politically inactive,” but Quinn “hopes to do well” with them with the help community-based groups), and the Upper East Side (the wealthy, mostly white area has donated $13,130,000 to Democratic mayoral candidates since 2001.) It’s a simple way to learn something about the city’s neighborhoods ahead of Tuesday’s election.
