After initially denying they were involved, the U.S. government’s main provider of background checks, USIS, has admitted it cleared Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis in 2007. The same company was called out for “shortcomings” in its examination of the eventual NSA leaker, and while it would be insane to equate the two, it just doesn’t look good from a business standpoint if your business is background checks and you received $253 million from the government last year.
