Same Company Did Background Checks for Aaron Alexis, Edward Snowden

UNKNOWN, UNSPECIFIED - SEPTEMBER 16: In this handout photo provided by the FBI, Aaron Alexis is shown in a photo prior to the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on September 16, 2013 in Washington, D.C. Authorities believe Alexis was a gunman involved in the shootings at the Navy Yard, where at least 12 people were shot and killed. (Photo by FBI via Getty Images)

After initially denying they were involved, the U.S. government's main provider of background checks, USIS, has admitted it cleared Navy Yard shooter Aaron Alexis in 2007. The same company was called out for "shortcomings" in its examination of the eventual NSA leaker, and while it would be insane to equate the two, it just doesn't look good from a business standpoint if your business is background checks and you received $253 million from the government last year.
