"I am alive so must live," the Virginia state senator wrote on Twitter and Facebook this morning, his first public statement since being stabbed more than ten times by his son. "Some wounds won't heal. Your prayers and your friendship are important to me," he added. Twenty-four-year-old Gus Deeds committed suicide with a rifle after attacking his father on Tuesday. The day prior, after an emergency mental-health evaluation, Gus was released from custody because there was no vacant psychiatric bed available for him in the area.
