Rob Ford Is Getting Professional Help for … Something, But He Isn’t an Addict

The announcement that Rob Ford is entering rehab seems long overdue, and in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, the Toronto mayor confirmed that he is “seeking professional help” – it’s just not the kind of treatment you’d expect for a guy who’s dabbled in crack and most other vices. “I’m training every day, I’m in the gym two hours every day, I’m seeking professional help,” he said, adding, “I don’t call it substance abuse because I’m not an addict. I’m not an alcoholic. I’m not a drug addict. Maybe some people are, I’m not.”

Though the City Council is expected to make Ford the mayor in name only on Monday, he reiterated that he has every intention of staying in office, and running for reelection in October. “I can assure you if the Council wants to continue what it’s doing – stripping me of all my powers, taking away my staff – they can’t stop me from showing up to Council, debating every issue,” he said, according to a transcript obtained by the Toronto Star. “No one can stop me from returning phone calls, no one can stop me campaigning.”

Ford even upped the ante, adding, “Yes, one day I do want to run for prime minister.” Making inebriated murder threats and the (presumably?) sober comments about eating your wife’s vagina are good ways to ensure everybody in the country knows your name.
