On Tuesday, Uruguay became the first country in the world to legalize not just the consumption of marijuana but the the cultivation, production, and sale of it. Come April, Uruguayan residents age 18 or older will be able to buy up to 40 grams (1.4 ounces) a month from licensed pharmacies, at a whopping price of $1 a gram. Those who want to grow it can have six plants in their homes producing 480 grams a year, “and form smoking clubs of 15 to 45 members that can grow up to 99 plants per year,” Reuters reports. Eat your hearts out, Colorado and Washington.
