Following a large and very public memorial service on Tuesday, the body of South African leader Nelson Mandela was laid to rest in his hometown of Qunu, South Africa on Sunday. Associated Press reports that military officers both black and white rolled Mandela’s flag-draped coffin to his family’s burial plot there, while “formations of planes and military helicopters, South African flags flapping from the bellies, flew over the green hills where thousands of mourners had gathered.” This time around, guests paying their final respects to the anti-apartheid champion included African National Congress military veterans, U.S. Ambassador Patrick Gaspard, Britain’s Prince Charles, Monaco’s Prince Albert II, Oprah Winfrey, Richard Branson, and former Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. No one was seen taking a selfie.
