Mayor Bill de Blasio's tendency to run behind schedule has been well documented, probably in part because it irritates reporters. In the past, he blamed his tardiness on his dislike of mornings but, now that he is actually mayor, he has another excuse. When asked if he was, as Politicker somewhat pointedly put it, "concerned about wasting public resources when government staffers were kept idling," de Blasio explained that, "We start when we think everything is fully prepared ... Sometimes things happen during the time that we had scheduled to start that are priorities that we have to deal with. Obviously that’s been particularly true in the last few days and as we go through a transition." However, de Blasio was "only 15 minutes late" to his Tuesday press conference, which is "on par" with Michael Bloomberg's timing. Give him a few more weeks and he'll probably stop shoveling his own snow.
