Liz Cheney confirmed today that she’s dropping her bid for the Senate in Wyoming, due to unspecified “serious health issues” in her family saying, “My children and their futures were the motivation for our campaign and their health and well-being will always be my overriding priority.” On Monday evening, Senator Mike Enzi told reporters that his former primary challenger called earlier in the day to break the news herself – but didn’t offer to endorse him. “It was a brief conversation. And one of her children is having a health problem, so I hope everyone will keep them in their prayers,” Enzi said. “She’s got other things on her mind. This is critical enough that she pulled out of her race. So I’m not pressing for anything at this point.” The Wyoming senator didn’t seem too concerned about it. He’s now expected to coast to a fourth term, and several of his Republican colleagues greeted him with high-fives on the Senate floor tonight.
