Following the Seattle Seahawks’ shellacking of the Denver Broncos last night, game MVP Malcolm Smith had his press conference intercepted. “Investigate 9/11!” said a balding white guy into Smith’s microphone after storming the podium. “9/11 was perpetrated by people within our own government.” He was quickly hurried away while everyone looked around uncomfortably. “Is everybody all right?” asked a dazed Smith. “Check his press pass.”
It turns out he had a fake one, and was arrested for trespassing.
The Most Valuable Truther was identified as Matt Mills, a 30-year-old independent journalist from Brooklyn. “I didn’t think that I’d get that far,” Mills told NJ.com of his forged credentials. “I just kept getting closer and closer. Once I got past the final gate and into the stadium, I was dumbfounded.”
“I just saw my opportunity to get my word out there and I took it,” he said.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll might relate. According to a Deadspin report, Carroll used a casual meeting with a retired four-star general to grill him about who really planned the attack. “Every 9/11 conspiracy theory you can think of, Pete asked about,” said a friend. “Pete grew up in California during Vietnam, and during Watergate. That’s just the perspective he brings to the table.”
So was Mills’ appearance a coincidence? Think about it. Really think about it.
