Over the weekend, authorities carried out New York's biggest cockfighting bust ever, raiding two cockfighting events in Queens and Brooklyn, and a breeding farm upstate in Plattekill. About 70 people were arrested and 3,000 birds were rescued. Attorney General Eric Schneiderman denounced cockfighting as "a cruel, abusive and barbaric practice that tortures animals, endangers the health and safety of the public and is known to facilitate other crimes," but authorities found a far more upbeat nickname for the sting.
