Rebekah Brooks, the former News of the World editor on trial for bribery and phone-hacking, said today in court "that there had to be an overwhelming public interest to justify payments in the very narrow circumstances of a public official being paid for information directly in line with their jobs." She added, "Each newspaper has its own interpretation." So it depends how you feel, for instance, about David Beckham's love life.
