Pentacostal pastor Jamie Coots, the snake-handling preacher who stars in National Geographic's Snake Salvation, died from a snakebite in a church service Saturday as he was practicing a tradition meant to demonstrate divine protection. Church members took Coots home after he passed out from the bite, but he never regained consciousness, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. Coots had "always said, 'Don't take me to the doctor'" if he was bitten, according to his son. Someone called an ambulance for him anyway, but the family refused medical care.
