This Year Has Already Seen Snowfall for the Ages

People walk past a pile of snow on February 14, 2014 in Times Square in New York City. New York and surrounding areas have been pummeled with heavier than usual snowfall this year, including a storm yesterday that dumped 8-12 inches of snow.

Gothamist did some strong work Friday putting this year's snow totals in historical perspective. Seems not only have we gotten on the top ten board with a ninth-place 54 inches for the season, this breakdown of monthly numbers and various other stats shows that while snowfalls typically peak in February, we frequently get a good dose in March, as well. With two weeks left of the former and all of the latter to go this winter, and snow forecast this weekend and next Tuesday, there's a decent enough chance we'll crack the top five. Go team!
