America's version of a royal baby cometh. Former and potentially future first daughter Chelsea Clinton announced today that she is expecting with husband Marc Mezvinsky.

"Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year and I certainly feel all the better, whether it's a girl or a boy, that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong young female leaders. So thank you for inspiring me and inspiring future generations, including the one that we'll be lucky enough to welcome into our family later this year," she said at "No Ceilings," a women's forum at the Lower East Side Girls Club in New York City. "I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child, and hopefully children, as my mom was to me."

Like most things in the family, this was planned carefully. Asked about her priorities late last year, Chelsea told Glamour, "The first thing on the list was simple: We want, God willing, to start a family. So we decided we were going to make 2014 the Year of the Baby. And please," she added, "call my mother and tell her that. She asks us about it every single day."

By our rough baby math, the kid will be at peak cuteness right around the 2016 campaign.

Speaking about her mother's legacy to Vogue, the 34-year-old said, "I am proud of my mom for many, many reasons, but one of the reasons that I'm chiefly proud of her is the legacy that she will leave as secretary of State. That women's voices won't only be a vital part of how America is seen around the world, but a central part of how we ... try to build a better world for — if she were here she would say — the grandchildren she hopes to have."

Bill is pretty into the idea as well, although he knew better than to nag. When Charlie Rose asked Hillary last year, "President or a grandmother?" Bill stepped in. "If you ask her, I think she'd say grandmother," he said, "but I have found it best not to discuss that issue." He added, "My goal is to live to be a grandfather. The rest of it's out of my hands."
