New York Smells Like New Jersey This Morning

Blame New Jersey.

If you woke up to a wood-burning scent this morning, do not be alarmed. “Due to a brush fire in the Wharton State Park in New Jersey, residents in Staten Island & Brooklyn may smell smoke,” the NYC Office of Emergency Management reported in the wee hours of Monday morning. Manhattan is getting it, too.

Not quite as charming as the notorious syrup smell, the layer of haze wafted more than 90 miles over New York last night before the winds died down, "settling the odor over the city."

No injuries have been reported, but there are plenty of complaints and Chris Christie jokes:
