Kids Injured After Firecracker Explodes on School Bus

NEW YORK, NY - JANUARY 15: Students walk to board a school bus in Manhattan's East Village on January 15, 2013 in New York City. Drivers of the city's school buses are set to go on strike tomorrow after negotiations with Mayor Michael Bloomberg failed to reach an agreement; over 150,000 children will need to find an alternate method of transportation to school. Eleven students from Coney Island’s Brooklyn Dreams Charter School were hospitalized on Tuesday morning after “one or two” of their classmates set off a smoke-bomb-style firecracker on the way to school. While most of the injuries were limited to watery eyes and scratchy throats, CBS News reports that one child (possibly the one responsible for the explosion) was seriously hurt. Save it for the outdoors, kids. Or at least wait until the Fourth of July, when everyone is at least more prepared for this kind of thing.
