A distraught man stripped off his clothes and jumped into the Harlem River off of the Bronx’s Roberto Clemente State Park on Saturday morning, the New York Post and New York Daily News report. Witness Christina Burtos told the Post that the man placed a funeral urn on the ground and a bouquet of roses in his mouth before taking the plunge. “He was determined to take his life. Once he hit the water he started shaking. He was throwing water in his face. He was trying to hold his face under,” said Burtos, who added that the man dismissed a rod a fisherman had extended in an attempt to help him. The body of the man, who left behind a contact-less phone and no ID, has not been recovered. According to the Daily News, the urn contained the ashes of someone who died in 2007.
