Mitch McConnell Crushes Tea-Party Challenger in Kentucky Primary

There was more bad news for the tea party on Tuesday night in Kentucky. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell defeated Republican primary challenger Matt Bevin by nearly 24 points, with 97 percent of precincts reporting. Conservative groups unhappy with the Republican establishment had set their sights on unseating McConnell, and Bevin managed to raise $3.3. million, more than any tea-party candidate who has challenged an incumbent senator in the last two elections. However, with McConnell pouring $11 million into the race and Bevin making several rookie mistakes, the minority leader was always ahead in the polls. Now McConnell can focus on defeating Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky’s secretary of State, in November, and the American people can continue pursuing their passion for #McConnelling.
