President Obama Sneaked Over to Afghanistan

The long Memorial Day weekend provided President Obama with a little extra time to sneak over to Afghanistan and visit the American troops there, the Associated Press is now allowed to report. Air Force One landed at Afghanistan’s Bagram Air Field “under cover of darkness” on Sunday night after a 13-hour overnight flight from Washington. As is generally the case when he travels to a war zone, Obama’s trip was a surprise, and will be brief: The leather jacket-clad President is scheduled to spend only a few hours in Afghanistan, where he will be “briefed by U.S. commanders, speak to troops at Bagram and visit injured troops being treated at a base hospital.” There are no plans for Obama to travel to Kabul to meet with President Hamid Karzai, with whom he does not always get along.
