The 58-year-old driver of a livery SUV was killed on Madison Avenue today when he got out to let passengers exit while in reverse, not park. He flung the door open, stuck his leg in, and pressed the brake. At least that’s what he meant to do. He actually hit the gas, shooting the SUV back into a parked van and pinning himself between the vehicles. Police say he went into cardiac arrest as the SUV kept rolling backward. A good Samaritan, described by onlookers as “like Batman,” quickly jumped in and stopped it, but the driver was pronounced dead at New York-Presbyterian.
