The small bit of West 121st Street in Manhattan officially dubbed George Carlin Way yesterday was only supposed to be one block, but a clerical error made it two, the New York Times reports. Unfortunately for all that is holy, that means it includes Corpus Christi Church, which has opposed the ceremonial street name for years. Although the comedian attended the church as a child, he went on to say, “If there is a god, I think most reasonable people might agree that he’s incompetent and maybe, just maybe, doesn’t give a shit.” And because this is bureaucracy, the mistake will take at least until the fall for the City Council to correct. God may not be real but irony definitely is.
