A Queens-based drug smuggler opened fire on U.S. marshals when they used a battering ram to break down his door late Tuesday night, reports the New York Daily News. The unnamed man was wanted for smuggling cocaine and for assault, and authorities had been trying to track him down for some time.

When marshals broke down his door in Springfield Gardens around 11 p.m. last night, the barricaded suspect greeted them with automatic gunfire. Police returned shots, wounding the man in his left hand. The suspect eventually dropped his weapon and emerged with his hands up. No law enforcement officials were injured, and the man was taken into custody.
