While you were trying to decide what to order on Seamless, tens of thousands of people ran the 44th annual New York City Marathon in the first cold weather of the season. Of course, anyone capable of running 26.2 miles is some kind of winner, but only two people can officially receive that title. This year, those people were Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany, both of Kenya.
Thirty-two-year-old Kipsang won the men’s race — his first appearance at the New York City Marathon — in two hours, ten minutes, and 59 seconds. Keitany, also 32, won the women’s contest with a time of two hours, 25 minutes, and seven seconds — just 2.3 seconds faster than second-placer Jemima Jelagat Sumgong, making her win one of the closest in New York City history, according to the New York Times.
