Creeping Lava From Hawaiian Volcano Slowly Takes Down Its First Home

Photo: County of Hawaii

The slow, steady creep of lava from Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has finally reached a residence, setting fire to a rental home Monday. The flow destroyed the house, though hadn’t actually reached the detached garage yet. The family renting the home had left weeks ago, telling the local news that despite the loss, the wait is finally over. Lava has been slinking toward the town of Pahoa for months, but right now, isn’t immediately threatening any other homes.
