After searching for several hours, the NYPD found 34-year-old Jonathon Walker dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday. Walker, whose body was discovered in his car near JFK airport, fatally shot his 31-year-old girlfriend, Shantai Hale; her 62-year-old mother, Viola Warren; and the couple’s 7-year-old daughter, Kayla Walker, at the family’s Brookville, Queens, home around 5:40 a.m. on Saturday. Walker’s other daughter, 12-year-old Christina, managed to call 911 to report what had happened, despite also having been shot in the head by her father, who fled the house after the murders.
Christina was reportedly still conscious when help arrived, and she is now in critical condition at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Another relative told the New York Times that Walker had always seemed like a good dad. “There were no problems whatsoever,” said Warren’s brother, 53-year-old Wendell. “We will be baffled for years to come.” Meanwhile, the NYPD told reporters that Walker called his brother in Las Vegas shortly before committing suicide, telling him, “What I did, I cannot come back from.”
