Most Americans find watching hours of congressional proceedings pretty boring, and it turns out members of Congress are just like us! On Tuesday as Representative Buddy Carter droned on about a TSA program that keeps terrorists from entering U.S. ports or something, Representative Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican, slipped into a seat behind him and started making eyes at the C-SPAN camera. Harris winked twice and whipped his glasses off, apparently responding to dares from someone he was texting. His office claims that someone was his mom. “His mother watches C-SPAN,” spokesman Chris Meekins told National Journal, “and it makes her day to see him.” Kudos for Meekins for coming up with an explanation that makes goofing off when you should be pondering national security seem kind of cute.
