Florida Mailman Now Banned From the Capitol

Douglas Hughes, the 61-year-old mailman from Florida who landed a gyrocopter outside the Capitol to deliver mail to lawmakers — and take a stand for campaign finance reform — was barred from ever going near the White House or Capitol again. Given the feelings that he had about America’s political system, this punishment may not seem too severe, but Hughes is also not allowed to fly his gyrocopter anymore. He was released on home detention and will need to wear a GPS device. The federal court in D.C. also charged him with a felony and a misdemeanor — if he is convicted, that could mean up to four years in prison. During his appearance in court, he wore his Postal Service jacket.
