The outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Liberia is over,” said the World Health Organization in a Saturday statement. The New York Times reports that it’s been 42 days (double Ebola’s incubation period) “since the safe burial of the last person confirmed to have had Ebola in the country, fulfilling the official criteria for concluding that human-to-human transmission of the virus has ended.” More than 4,700 Liberians died from the disease in between March 2014 and this spring.
