The U.S. Women’s National Team celebrated their thrilling World Cup win with a jubilant ticker-tape parade down the Canyon of Heroes in lower Manhattan on Friday. But man, did that procession generate a lot of trash — 29.6 tons, to be exact. The Department of Sanitation said it was able to recycle about 7.6 tons. Still, the women’s soccer parade did not win the World Cup of garbage. Currently, that title still belongs to the New York Yankees, whose 2009 celebration created 56.5 tons of trash.
