The Associated Press reports that Baltimore has reached a $6.4 million wrongful-death settlement with the family of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old man who in April suffered a fatal spinal injury while in the custody of the city’s police department. Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake stressed that the agreement, which still needs to be approved by Baltimore’s Board of Estimates, should “not be interpreted as a judgment on the guilt or innocence” of the six officers facing criminal charges in Gray’s death. Last week, a judge ruled that each of those cops will receive a separate trial. A hearing on a possible change of venue for those proceedings is expected later this week.
