A new Marist/NBC poll shows Bernie Sanders with a sizable lead over Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, and gaining on her in Iowa. In New Hampshire, the poll reports that Sanders is besting Clinton 41 percent to 32 percent when Joe Biden is listed as an option (he got 16 percent). Remove Biden as a candidate and Sanders’s lead increases, 49 percent to Clinton’s 38 percent, with Clinton carrying women and Democrats by seven points, and Sanders carrying independents by 36 points. Meanwhile in Iowa, Clinton’s lead over Sanders has dropped from 29 points in July to 11 points now. Looking at the possibility of Biden being in the race in Iowa, the poll found that he has the highest favorability rating there (74 percent) of any current Democratic candidate.

On the Republican side, the poll results show that Donald Trump is “outpacing his competitors for the Republican nomination across the board. He runs best among Tea Party identifiers, independents, voters without a college education, and men.”
