North Brooklyn residents may want to start looking for a new place before 2019. The MTA is going to completely shut down the L train in January 2019 for 18 months to repair the crumbling Canarsie tunnel under the East River, reports the New York Times. The total closure was one of two painful options — the other being a three-year partial shutdown — presented to the public over months, though the MTA (and many riders) seemed to be leaning toward the “rip the Band-Aid off” approach of kicking the L train offline completely to speed up the timeline.
