By the Time I Got to Iceland...
Penn and Curtis: They Were Good for the Jews

Not So Vulture-Eyed

I'm back from Iceland where the talk on Jim Jarmusch went very well and before I flew out I was treated to a personal tour of geysers, water falls, and kilometer after kilometer of vistas that looked like nothing I'd seen on this planet. I did not have time to eat hakarl, largely because no restaurant I visited would serve it. (The stench is legendary.) I also did not get a chance to eat puffin, which I'm told tastes like something halfway between game and fish--but I doubt I would have anyway because some things are too cute to choke down. Full report to come after I write about The Social Network. In the meantime, Vulture has launched full-speed ahead and I confess an inability to find some of the reviews over which I so diligently slaved--they tend to get lost in the mix of celebrity news, recaps, interviews, etc. I'll make a habit of posting links here for those keeping score. (How It Now Works: I'm writing two or three reviews for the print mag--available here online--and also two or three Web-only reviews. It should add up to five.) Buried is here. Howl is here. Enter the Void is here. Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger are floating around somewhere, too. The Social Network and Let Me In are on the way. Who has time for film festivals??
