When Every Day is Oscar Day

Can’t wait to see Natalie Portman in Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, which has been well reviewed at the Venice Film Festival. Word is she’s giving a pretty swell performance (“lays bare the myriad insecurities genuinely dedicated performers face when testing their limits, revealing shades of the actress never before seen on film”), although I wouldn’t be much of a critic if I didn’t add, “I’ll be the judge of that.” Still, if it is a swell performance and it doesn’t win her the Oscar for which she is now the alleged favorite, we’ll look back on this day and think, “How sad—it looked as if she had a shot,” and hope she can pick herself up and get it together to give another Oscar-worthy performance because this one will have gone down as a disappointment and she will be a loooooooooser.
