Former Christ the King Coach Charged With Child Rape

A nasty story in the Daily News this morning: Bob Oliva, the Christ the King basketball coach who helped shepherd Lamar Odom and Jayson Williams (among others) toward the NBA, was indicted on child rape charges in Boston. The indictment stems from an incident in Boston in the seventies — Oliva resigned from the job in January 2009 in response to increasing allegations — but the accuser is not alone: Several former players for Oliva testified before the grand jury in Boston last month, including former major-league pitcher Allen Watson. If convicted, Oliva faces life in prison.
