coaching is a terrible job

St. John’s Puts Norm Roberts Out of His Misery

It’s finally official: Norm Roberts has been let go as coach of the St. John’s Red Storm. He was here six years but never made an NCAA tournament, which will get you fired no matter how much everybody likes you and no matter how much you love the university. St. John’s has quite a bit of talent coming back next year, and St. John’s has long been considered an attractive position. (Sometimes out of proportion: Sorry, Bob Knight’s not coming here unless you figure out a way to let him hunt in Queens.) So, for the record, St. John’s needs a coach, Seton Hall needs a coach, and Fordham needs a coach. It’s going to be an interesting spring for failed area teams.
