NCAA Tournament Set to Expand to 68 teams

Good news for the concept of not fixing things that ain’t broke: The NCAA has reached a fourteen-year deal with CBS and Turner Sports to televise the NCAA Tournament, which will only expand to 68 teams next year — instead of 96 — if the proposal is approved by the Division I board of directors. Presumably, all this means is you’ll now have four play-in games that don’t affect your bracket to ignore, instead of just one. Among the highlights of the contract, which is worth $10.8 billion: Every game in the first and second round will now be televised, across four channels: CBS, TNT, TBS, and truTV. And starting in 2016, the Final Four and title game will alternate between CBS and Turner. [ESPN.com, NYT]
